Payment protection

Choose the Payment Protection benefits on death, disability and/or retirement and we'll cover the cost of your premiums when you become disabled, retire or pass away. A family member can take over the plan to ensure the plan continues.

Repatriation

Transportation of the deceased’s body. We’ll cover the cost to transport the deceased person’s body to the place of burial within South Africa. Ts & Cs apply.

Premium skips

Skip premiums in tough times. Even if you have to skip paying your premium, your plan still stays active. Ts & Cs apply.

Value protection

Cover the rising cost of living (inflation). Add the Value Protection benefit to your plan to keep up with rising funeral costs.

Memorial benefit

Honour the memory of a loved one. Use the funeral cover Memorial benefit to pay homage to the memory of a loved one, whether by choosing a tombstone or planning a memorial ceremony.

Monthly Essentials benefit

Cover for your immediate household needs. Choose the Metropolitan Funeral Cover Monthly Essentials benefit to cover any shortfalls on your family’s living expenses as they adjust to the death of a loved one insured on the plan.

CashBack

Choose the CashBack benefit and get some of your premiums back by staying on track with your plan. We’ll give you two premiums after your first 12 months. Thereafter, we’ll give you six premiums after every 36 months. The average cost of a CashBack benefit is 16.5% of your premium. What is life and healthcare cover?

Life cover, or life insurance, is an insurance policy that pays out a sum of money when you die. Having a life insurance policy will ensure that your loved ones will receive a cash amount, which they can use to:

  • Replace lost income by covering household and other daily expenses.
  • Pay off debt such as a bond, vehicle finance loan or credit card.
  • Contribute towards a child’s education

While life cover takes care of your loved ones’ wellbeing when you’re no longer around, healthcare cover will help you take care of expenses because of a stay in hospital. Unlike medical aid or health insurance which typically covers the costs of medical treatments like doctors’ or hospital expenses, your healthcare plan pays out a cash amount for each day you spend in hospital.

A life cover plan gives you and your family some financial stability and peace of mind when you need it most. How will the Monthly Essentials benefit cover my household needs?

The Monthly Essentials benefit is an add-on benefit that pays a monthly payout of up to R3 000 for 6 or 12 months, depending on the cover you choose. You can claim and use the payout from the benefit to cover any household costs and other essential items after the death of an insured adult family member who contributed to your family’s income.

What can I use the Metropolitan Funeral Cover Memorial benefit for?

This add-on funeral plan benefit pays a lump sum amount of up to R20 000 to help you honour the memory of a loved one. You could use the money to pay for a tombstone and/or a memorial ceremony. You can choose to receive the money immediately or within 18 months after you’ve made the funeral claim.
